Not enough in the way that you think. Right now leadership is being pulled in so many different directions and we are not well.
Most of us are operating on what Resolute Leadership & Consulting refers to as ‘Covid Brain’. We have been operating for over a year with our brains flooded with cortisol. We have unprecedented anxiety in most areas of our lives. If we are not operating with high levels of anxiety, we certainly have many people in our families and networks who are.
Mental fitness, must be practiced and/or flexed or it will atrophy as a leader.
Mental fitness and the philosophy of positive intelligence is based on Shirzad Chamine’s New York Times bestselling book and Stanford lectures. These Lectures had 500 individuals as the basis for his research. Positive psychology (or PQ) is a combination of positive psychology, cognitive behaviouraltherapy, emotional intelligence and neuroscience. My work to date has been a combination of 32 years in the workforce. I have battle scars from years of operating in the PQ void and psychologically unsafe environments. I finally realized: that I am in a position to guide and coach others by encouraging them that what they are doing is not enough. They likely think they are doing enough for their teams, families, and children. Yet without practicing mental fitness they most likely will not have the capacity to provide the leadership required for the difficulties the next few years will present.
We are facing eminent layoffs. The restructuring of universities. Hundreds of thousands of people losing their jobs. Millions needing to retrain leaders. We will have to be agile, curious and courageous. Without self guided mental fitness, we will have unhealthy leaders, promoting unhealthy practices. Please if nothing else find out your current mental fitness level and how you compared to the rest of the population through this 2-minute PQ score assessment.
